I got nothin’ (but pictures of the rearview mirror)

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

This week (yop, I know it’s only Tuesday Wednesday) is the suck. I go on vacation for 2.5 days and when I get back I find out that half of my department is vanishing, and I have to tell one of the remaining people to stop scratching their balls at work.

Fun!

Vancouver was awesome! Except the sushi restaurant part. And the ridiculous traffic part. And the part where the car seemed to be leaking oil on the way home.

I took pictures of the drive out and back in the rear view mirror. It was fun! Check it!

Hmmph. It rearranged the order of my pictures. I’ll fix it later, I’m trying to beat a knitting deadline right now, and it’s way more important, oddly, than pictures.

Birthday Cake

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Almost a month ago, boy bot celebrated his birthday. It was the kind of birthday that is a multiple of 11.

I made cake! An angel food cake with a tunnel of melted dark chocolate chips, and skor crunchies. Egg whites were the magic congealing trick. I don’t really remember the quantity. Let’s say a few egg whites were involved.

It was really tasty. I didn’t do the most fantastic job covering it in whipped cream, but what I did do was add Angostura bitters to the whipping cream instead of vanilla or rum extract. It was pretty delicious and I would do it again.

Weekend in Vancouver was pretty exhausting. I bought new glasses tonight. Boybot doesn’t like them and we got into a fight because they have OMG green arms! and I said I didn’t really care what he thought because I was getting them anyway. He’s sensitive and I’m mean.

Cake time!

  1. Something to try: Microwave baked chocolate cake in a mug @ Dizzy Dee
  2. Something that’s fun: Periodic Table of the Awesoments @ The Dapperstache
  3. Something that I know is awesome from having tried it many moons ago: Corn with lime spice rub @ diy gourmet. My attempt last night on farmer’s market corn turned out delicious. I used:
    • 1 tsp red chili powder
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
    • 1/5 tsp sea salt
    • 1/5 tsp brown sugar
    • 1 very groady cutting board that fell victim to a pint of stawberries

    yummy with corn

  4. Something useful that I didn’t know: How to eat a pommegranate @ emptyage
  5. Another useful thing that I didn’t know: Kitchen hacks @ TipNut.com. Seriously! 1 pound of onions = 2.5 cups chopped. Seriously, that link is going to save me a million years.

Ok. Sure. I could have bookmarked these… but why not potentially share with someone else?
