Heart Creek Trail

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Nature is kind of dull. In November. When everything is pretty much expecting to have been buried under 3 feet of snow already. I mean, the next day: DONE. Saturday, just kind of warm, and dull, and nice-but-not-beautiful.

The lighting was great for taking pictures - of people. I’m not so much for putting pictures of myself and my peoples on the internet. I used to be, but I think I had to much of the fear put in me and maybe I’m also a little self conscious. I did, however, put a gem of a profile pic up on the facebook. The walk about in the woods was a lot of fun. (Fun=anything not involving coursework, even cleaning).

NaBloPoMo FAIL. For realz. And I really don’t care. I have too much stuff going on in my life to care about updating a stupid blog everyday. Kudos to people who can, and do, and provide me with some entertaining reading. These people all seem to be stay-at-home type folks. Not people who work, go to school, and attempt to have a social life (I can actually only think of one blog I read that fits that description, and her posts are almost as lame as mine are).

These weekend was stellar. I didn’t do any studying or assignments. Procrastinating  FTW.

Friday night I made some smoked bison pizza on stoneground whole wheat pizza crust. Delicious. Then we watched wall-e. A robot romantic comedy. That’s my kinda movie.

Saturday morning I made some amazing maple fried oatmeal with organic pear slices on top, then we went hiking. We went to Heart Creek Trail. An extremely easy walk along the base of Heart (attack) Mountain. I vow that I will one day, again, conquer Heart Mountain. It’s not a particularly difficult scramble, and I can rock climb (if I have to) so it shouldn’t be THAT hard. Ooooh but that ridge-walk and the height and OMG scared! Any way. Heart Creek Trail. As the link says: there is a waterfall at the end of the trail. Or audible signs of it, anyway. Where is the waterfall? Oh, you know, behind that corner of solid granite cliff. No biggie. But it sounded nice, and the walk to get there was super enjoyable. The weather was perfect, and considering the amount of snow that came down today, so was our timing.

When we got home, I made a huge bison steak (the theme to the weekend), with wild rice and barley risotto, and parsnips. I love parsnips. I’m not sure what we did after that, but I’m sure it was fun. Oh! I made our Christmas cards. They’re pretty simple this year…Just an embossed stamp on plain cardboard glued to red cardstock. Done. I’d never embossed before. Using a heat gone is fun.

This morning I made more bison (sausages), and an omelette. There was some house cleaning. Coffee with eggnog drinking. Movie watching (Role Models). Dinner making: I made chicken for the first time in my life. It was free range, organic, and gluten free, and I had some. It was delicious. I used a recipe stolen from my mom who stole it from my grandmother. I’m pretty sure somebody modified the recipe somewhere along the way because what I made was awesome, but not what I expected. I also made chocolate chip cookies. Then I ate two. At some point earlier I’d hate a rootbeer float. This meant an hour spend with the wii fit and a half an hour on the elliptical. Oooooh food. Why must you taste so good on the weekend?
