spring psychic tea

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

that’s right.

I should be getting ready for to go to a spring psychic tea at the ded ppl church right now. I have to give readings. 15 minute readings. And people will pay money.

I need a new pillow. My neck feels kind of messed up lately, even after the best night sleep.

OK. I feel guilty procrastinating…. What does one wear to a psychic tea? I guess I should know the answer to that, shouldn’t I?

i won’t let this happen to my children

Well, not MY children, but you know, my children.

Last night I went for a Jugo and a walk with a former co-worker. It’s been maybe 3 months since the last time I saw her, and that’s about how pregnant she is right now. Children bring chaos. I can’t say I’m particularly interested in having any. EVER. At the same time, I don’t hate kids. I think they’re loud and annoying. So are a lot of adults. Oh, but the problems having multiple people to look after brings. How do people do it?

So. What I really meant by the title, other than pointing out a super-awesome Radiohead song is… hard to explain. I guess it’s kind of - I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone. My life isn’t bad, and it could be worse - but trust me: YOU DON’T WANT IT. Know what else you don’t want? Illness. Sickness. Disease.

I wonder, if my parents knew that their kids would grow up fighting the kinds of physical and emotional battles we’ve had… would they have us all over again? We’re all still alive. Everybody’s got something. I mean everyone… on the planet. From thin tooth enamel to crappy eyesight to benign tumors to full on cancer. With that in mind: What motivates people to procreate?

It’s not even my pregnant friend that brought this on. It’s something I said tonight to my boyfriend. I told him that I hope he never has to go through all the pain and the suffering his mother is going through right now. In her war against full body cancer. So stoically. But if he does, I’m here for him.

You know.. life. It wears me out.

I brought some work home. I’d better get to it.

the goings-on

lately i’ve not been doing much. it’s been raining for the last 7 days. so much for that tan i had going on. oh wells.

this weekend has been a tidying up and getting my shit together weekend. events have included: grocery shopping, ikea dresser building, dusting, and becoming generally organized where organization didn’t exist before.

my nails are really long right now. by long i mean, i can see the tips of the nails when i look at the palm-side of my hand. this is boring… on to more important things.

this evening i’m knitting a man-scarf in basketweave stitch. the recipe is as follows:

basketweave scarf

-cast on a multiple of 8 + 3. i picked 27.
-use awesome wool. i chose a 4-ply , dk weight, 100% alpaca yarn from the yarn lady who used to be at the currie barracks farmers market
-pick some needles. i used 5mm [US 8] bamboo cheapies i’ve had forever and have grown to love.
-use a pattern. i used one of the two from about.com, found here.
Row one: Knit across.
Row two: K4, P3, *K5, P3; repeat from asterisk across, end K4.
Row three: P4, K3, *P5, K3; repeat from asterisk across, end P4.
Row four: Repeat row two.
Row five: Knit
Row six: P3, *K5, P3; repeat from asterisk across.
Row seven: K3, *P5, K3; repeat from asterisk across.
Row eight: Repeat row six.

Here’s a picture of the yarn I’m using… enjoy its manliness:
