Goooood, Betta, Bestest
January 15th, 2008I must begin by qualifying: I am not a loser. But, I have watched 3 movies since last Friday.
It began with Tideland. I have to say, I didn’t hate it. A lot of people did. There’s even a disclaimer by Terry Gilliam at the beginning of the movie warning people they might not enjoy it. I took the warning to heart, and ended up having a pretty good time watching it. There were a few mild to moderately boring minutes, but overall it was just fantastically weird and ultimately, not creepy, but wrong.
Post Tideland came Blood Diamond. I thought it was violent. Necessarily violent, though, in order to tell a story of civil warfare its easy for people living in North American urban centers to ignore. I thought Leonardo DiCaprio was good. In fact, for the first 20 minutes of the movie, I wasn’t entirely sure who the actor was. In high school, my friends used to call him Leonardo DeGreaseMonkey. Just thought I’d share that (disclaimer: in no way does that represent my opinion of Leo DeeCap). While the movie was kind of flat, and only felt kind of sparkly (maybe 0.5 karats) it also made me want to take out my earrings. But I didn’t.
Third and most bestest was Juno. I love Ellen Page, and not just because she’s also a native Haligonian. She’s just good. Period. This movie is about a girl who ends up in the family way, if you will. It’s hilarious, cute, and I think has a great soundtrack to go along with it. What more could you ask for? Of the three movies I’ve watched in 4 days… I’d say it wins for least disappointing. It was recommended by my most fabulous hairstylist on Saturday whilst she turned my highlights “strawberry.” That’s right, you read it here first…. my hair is black and strawberry.
Be well my movie watchers, be well
